The establishment located at 21 Frederico Arouca Street (current 390) is installed in a building associated with popular urban architecture, located in the old “Direita (Straight) Street”, a common name that were used for the main street of one place.
The establishment in question has been active in the bakery in the area since the 1920s, keeping it in the same family and with the same activity. Until almost 100 years ago, it has been constantly producing bread for the population of the center of Cascais, qualified, more recently, as a pastry service, contributing to mark and improve the social and economic fabric of the village and constituting a reference in the history of local bakery.
Maintain a wide range of families linked to the same activity, all of them descendants of the bakery industrialists of the 1st half of the 20th century.
This establishment is the last one that, in the area, and because of its original use, develops that activity from the beginning and without interruption. The old wood ovens were deactivated in 1991 and the palce was modernized and expanded. However, bread continues to be made or used as traditional recipes. This establishment has become a local reference in the habits and rituals of the public, contributing to the urban identity and the same as a geographical reference.
Panisol-Comércio e Indústria de panificação, S.A. is a company engaged in the bakery trade and its activity is of a local nature developed through 18 establishments. These are traditional and small-sized businesses, with 3 or 4 employees, outside large stores. At the end of the 20s and 30s, the activity of baking was entirely carried out through small establishments for the manufacture and sale of bread. The establishment located at Frederico Arouca street, 21 (current 390) has been engaged in bakery in the area since the 1920s of the 20th century, remaining on the property of the same family and with the same activity. Due to the corporate system implemented during the Estado Novo, this establishment and the rest were compelled to incorporate the Panificadora de Cascais (constituted in 1943) and, later, the União Panificadora de Cascais (1953). For almost 100 years it has been constantly exercising the function of producing bread for the population of the center of Cascais, to which it has recently joined the pastry service. This establishment is the last one that, in the area, and because of its original use, develops that activity from the beginning and without interruption. The old wood ovens had to be dismantled in 1991 by modernizing and expanding the establishment. However, bread continues to be made using traditional recipes.
