The Shop

The activity of Moldursant focuses on the assembly of wooden frames, the transformation of profiles and the marketing of fine arts materials. It occasionally carries out decapé work and the application of gold and silver foil. It also organises workshops with some regularity.

Shop History

The company António Santos & Cª. Lda. started its activity in 1917 and has always worked in the city of Porto. It is the second oldest frame company in the country. Initially, it started by manufacturing frames, extending its activity to the trade of all kinds of fine arts materials. Moldursant has a close connection to the artistic community of the academy of Porto, artists, teachers and students. Also within its area of activity, the firm exhibits and sells works by young plastic artists from the city. Some of these artists use its services to frame the works to be exhibited in art galleries. The shop preserves some of the original architectural elements, namely the granite arches and walls, the traverse of the ceilings with wooden beams and all the subsequent interventions were to restore the original characteristics. Some works by artists dedicated to the firm, such as Sobral Centeno and Júlio Resende, machinery and moulds existing in the space of the factory on Rua Miguel Bombarda (now extinct), as well as other elements, are part of the estate of the shop.
