With more than 100 years of history, the grocery store remains a family business, now under the visionary leadership of Suzete Margarida Jorge Carvalho Henriques, who has maintained the commitment to quality and personalized service that have always been the hallmark of this commercial establishment.

Shop History

"The history of the grocery store and tavern of what is now the Ginja do Sanguinhal commercial space began with the determination and hard work of Júlio Ferreira de Carvalho. At the age of 12, Júlio started working as a shop assistant for the former owners of the establishment. Showing unmatched dedication and a natural talent for business, he acquired the commercial space through a transfer of ownership in 1909, marking the beginning of a family legacy. Júlio Ferreira de Carvalho and his wife had seven children, and it was their son, Abílio Ferreira de Carvalho, together with his wife, Emília Jorge, who continued the family business. Abílio took over the grocery store and tavern with the same passion and commitment that had characterized his father’s work. With his entrepreneurial spirit, Abílio devoted himself to the production of liqueurs, most notably the sour cherry liqueur. This was how the famous ‘Ginjinha do Sanguinhal’ was born, quickly becoming one of the most beloved and recognized products of this establishment. The third generation was marked by the leadership of Maria Emília Jorge Carvalho, daughter of Abílio Ferreira de Carvalho. From 1984 onwards, Maria Emília was her father’s right hand, absorbing all the knowledge and experience he had to offer. With globalization and market changes, Maria Emília kept the business true to its traditional roots, resisting pressures to modernize the grocery store and tavern.

Comercialização e degustação do tradicional licor de ginja e seus derivados, associados a uma seleção de produtos alimentares de origem local e regional. Funciona também como cafetaria. Preserva móveis de origem com as respetivas tulhas e algum equipamento original como balanças, bomba de combustível, medidora de azeite e diversos artigos de retrosaria, ferragens, drogaria e utilidades domésticas: elementos que integram a decoração, conferindo ao espaço a singularidade de um "museu vivo".
