Loja da Esquina (Papelaria Gomes Pereira) – is located in a century-old building located in the heart of a historic and traditional city.

Shop History

Originally created as a tobacco warehouse, it underwent some transformations, starting to dedicate itself to the purchase and distribution of newspapers until consolidating itself as a stationery store/kiosk to this day.
This space has always maintained the traditional image that characterizes it, both outside and inside. Outside, we found displays with foreign newspapers, with the amount at stake in the EuroMillions draw that fuels the hope of one day winning a big prize and a motorbike to entertain and amuse my little ones. We can also see a tap that, according to people, fed a coffee machine installed there. In the window you can see examples of articles existing inside. Here the decoration is based on the display of magazines on shelves and by themes. Posters from the popular Senhora da Agonia festivals are also on display.
Going to the stationery store is already part of the inhabitants’ daily lives. It is a reference point for anyone visiting the city. It’s a place where people comment on the news, news in newspapers or magazine covers, which also become a topic for gossip. It is a meeting and memory space, which plays an important role in preserving the traditions, customs and cultural values of Viana do Castelo.
