The Shop
Casa Primavera is a household name among the people of Viana. It is not, however, easy to pinpoint exactly when it first opened; it was once known as Tone Bento, the affectionate nickname given to its founder, António da Costa Peres.
Shop History
It was sometime in the 1940s that the famous tavern opened, gradually gaining fame for its wine, fried cod, and a variety of seafood snacks. But soon, its role extended beyond the flavor of its snacks, and it became a landmark of Ribeira and the city of Viana do Castelo, serving as an important hub for social gatherings and the celebration of maritime traditions. It was here that fishermen gathered to drink, play cards, and discuss the issues shaping the news
Seventeen years ago, the Soares family—well-known in the area—took over the business. With this passing of the torch, the famous Casa Primavera changed hands from Tone Bento to Taberna Soares.
