Shop History

The Association República Rosa Luxemburgo is, in the present times, particularly defined by its participation in the construction of the women movement in Coimbra, promoting political events on feminist themes and perspectives. It has defined for itself, in the most recent generations, a feminist identity, besides its active critical role in relation to the lifelong inequalities and oppressive relations that affect women in the different areas of life, including the political area.
It is important to refer that, even without presenting itself as a feminist house in all of its historical trajectory, it was the first Républica since its origin that was openly against the “praxe” and defended the abolition of the hierarchical and degrading academic traditions.
The Association República Rosa do Luxemburgo, formerly known as “Pink House”, was the first República exclusively constituted by women, when women were almost excluded of the academic community context. Over the years, this association hosted people from different origins and participated in diverse educational, political and cultural activities, developed along with other associations and had also developed its own events like the “Pink Month”, every year in March.

True replacement communities, alternative households from those left in hometown, the Repúblicas (communal houses for students) are more than just student or university residences, representing the traditional academic life of Coimbra, with all that this entails, from the bohemian life to the ideological aspects.
