BFG is an ironmongery store where tradition, style and history meet. The business is located in Porto downtown since 1900. It offers a huge variety of products of ironmongery: rustic and vintage items, antiques, old furniture and replicas. Besides making and selling originally designed products, the store owners also make custom-made pieces provided that the clients give the molds. The artisans working for BFG are experts in sand casting, the service is personalised and the advice given is excellent.
The business was created in 1900 by Bernardino Francisco Guimarães and Maria Amália da Fonseca Guimarães. This business was one of its kind in ironmongery sector in Porto, and as the years passed, it became famous all over the country.
In 1952 the niece, Heitor da Fonseca Vale, who had worked for the owner and founder, took care of the business.
The market was changing, and BFG adapted by focusing on making and selling exclusive products. Expert blacksmiths were working for BFG ans assuring the deliverance of high quality products. It is because of this that nowadays it is still possible to buy artisanal ironmongery from BFG: they have molds and products from every decade! You can find there unique pieces to restore or make replicas of old furniture; they also sell lamps, fireplace fixtures, door handles, and many other articles for rustic and vintage-styled houses.
Romi and Marina Vale are now taking care of the business, after Heitor. They keep their efforts and minds on the goal of preserving tradition while innovating.
