Shop History

Café Capristanos was one of the drivers of local and regional development in the 1950s in Caldas da Rainha. The first shopping center was born on February 19, 1949, this striking building was considered at the time the best bus station in the country, the most luxurious on the Iberian Peninsula and one of the most modern in Europe. Along with the bus station, a café, restaurant, waiting room, ticket office, tobacconist and a barbershop also opened in the center of a lively city. The Capristanos would go for a walk or listen to music in the garage or in the café. At the restaurant, one of the best-known and most expensive in the country, the cook was excellent and there were people from far away who came to Caldas on purpose for lunch or dinner. Even a radio program was aired from workshops. A true luxury for the time. At the time, Caldas da Rainha was a beautiful city, with excellent commerce, with businesspeople who were up to the challenges they faced. Arthur Eduardo Capristano was one of them, a man of his time, austere and tough. He started his life as a mechanic (when little was said about cars), but soon became D. Carlos’ chauffeur. He created his company in Bombarral (Capristano and Ferreira), always linked to passenger transport, but decided to leave his partner and move to the city that has always polarized the region – Caldas da Rainha.
