The Shop

The main purpose o this establishment is to market handicraft products exclusive from Portugal, especially "Bordado da Lixa", "Embroidery of Terra de Sousa", "Embroidery of Viana do Castelo", "Embroidery of Castelo Branco", "Embroidery Tibaldinho ", the "Vila Verde Embroidery", the "Rendas de Bilros "and the embroidery of Madeira and the Azores. The store has several copies of each of these embroidery items on display and for sale. In 2014 the establishment underwent restoration works maintaining the main architectural features and improving the conditions of service and presentation of the products. They recovered a mobile balcony inspired by Porto’s tram. It maintains the integrity of a significant part of the original elements. It is a very important space for customers and tourists, to be able to purchase the product and at the same time be informed and advised, for its best use.

Shop History

The company "Santos & Pena" under the trade name "Casa dos Linhos" was founded in 1860 and started its activity in Rua Formosa, passing soon afterwards to Rua Fernandes Tomás, n.º 660, where it remains to this day. The founders, having no descendants interested in the continuity of the business, offered in 2011 to Joaquim Pedro Teixeira and Adelaide Fernanda Campos the purchase of the establishment because they recognized they had a true passion for the history and for the preservation of this commercial patrimony. Joaquim Pedro Teixeira is the son of an old sandpaper embroiderer and a connoisseur of national embroidery. He is often invited to participate in books on this subject. Represent and market Portuguese crafts, from the embroidery of Lixa, Viana, Castelo Branco, Madeira, Azores and handicraft in manual loom.
