The Shop

An associative institution founded at the end of the 19th century. Inaugurated in 1901 in one of the most prestigious locations in the city of Peniche, the Public Garden. Over its 120 years of existence, the Club has organized events such as Carnival balls, summer parties, exhibitions, and other social initiatives, contributing to the revitalization of Peniche’s social and cultural experiences.

This institution continues to be an important part of the city’s cultural heritage, keeping the tradition of social and cultural events alive, and continuing to provide a space for community gathering in Peniche.

Shop History

The Clube Recreativo Penichense is a center of memories, traditions, and centuries-old experiences of the community of what is now the city of Peniche. Originally designed for the leisure activities of the local gentlemen, this institution was frequented by a group of members from the Peniche elite who held the Carnival, Easter, and New Year’s Eve Balls here, as well as the main local events and award ceremonies such as those for equestrian sports, go-karting, Baby of the Year, etc.

During the summer months, this club was also frequented by members of the upper class from Lisbon, who organized various cultural activities, such as concerts by artists (e.g., António Calvário).

Over time, the association gradually opened up to the wider Peniche community, with a program that included balls (notably the Carnival balls), cultural and social initiatives (book launches, hosting award ceremonies for the Peniche Bobbin Lace competitions, poetry sessions, etc.), sports activities, craft exhibitions, the Peniche Book Fair, and more.
