The Condado restaurant is a renovated space that combines the memory of the Guimarães region with an architectural language of modernist interior aesthetics, based on art deco lines and elements.
The restaurant also reclaims its original snack bar, offering a varied menu, ranging from a quick counter meal, classic lunch and dinner, important business meetings, or a relaxed gathering to celebrate friendship.
The Condado restaurant’s cuisine is based on a diverse offering where traditional Portuguese cuisine combines with new palates, resulting from discoveries and new emulations, in an ever-renewing adventure of flavors that is always worth discovering.

Shop History

The opening of Condado on August 1, 1969, under the firm of António Joaquim de Oliveira Martins, introduced a restaurant concept to Guimarães that was already prevalent abroad but still largely unknown in Portugal. Condado presented itself to the people of Guimarães as a multifunctional space. While Condado offered the speed of a counter and the serenity of table service, Condado also extended its offerings to include restaurants, snack bars, breweries, tea rooms, and bars. The concept encompassed both light and quick meals, snacks, and a brief encounter or a long conversation. Lunch and dinner, extended meetings, business conversations, or get-togethers with friends were also welcome. Condado’s space and service catered to both more formal dining and informal occasions. With opening hours from nine o’clock to two in the morning, Condado – Restaurant and Snack Bar represented the ability to interpret the dynamics of the times, responding to the economic vigor of the municipality of Guimarães observed at the end of the 1960s. When it opened, Condado met the demands of intense industrial occupation of the times, providing capable solutions for all types of clientele that, at that time, in addition to the economy, drove all the social areas of the city, especially the cultural one that used the space as a final venue for gatherings or even association meetings.
