The Shop

Building from the first half of the 20th century. One can read in the newspaper Estrela do Minho, of 5th January 1947: ‘elegant decoration, with luxury and comfort, the Confeitaria Moderna now has a tea room which does not fear confrontation with similar establishments of the big cities’.

Shop History

Located in Praça D. Maria II, this establishment has been delighting
famalicenses for over 70 years, initially ‘in a building next to the Post
Office’, according to the newspaper Notícias de Famalicão. The initiative
had been of Domingos da Silva Vieira, natural of Nine, in partnership with one of his brothers. In 1947, the Vieira brothers inaugurated their new facilities, in the current building.
Among its specialities, the Broinhas de Famalicão (Famalicão cornbread)
deserve to be highlighted, which have been maintained since the
foundation of this house. House of tradition and history is one of the most sought after places in festive seasons such as Christmas and Easter, for its Bolo-Rei, Fios de Ovo, Pão de ló and Amêndoas. Over time, it has received several awards for the quality and excellence of its sweets.
