The Shop

This confectionery has several products of recognised quality, such as the ‘bolo-rei’ (a festive cake in the shape of a crown, which is part of the Portuguese tradition, typically eaten at Christmas and Kings’ Day. It is a round shaped cake, with a large hole in the centre, made of a white fluffy mass mixed with dried grapes, dried and crystallised fruit), which it bakes throughout the year. There are also other specialities, such as ‘Hungarian sweets’ (butter biscuit, half of which has chocolate coating), snacks, croissants and pastry. It also has a grocery side, where there is no lack of wines, chocolates, pastas and other products. A welcoming and familiar environment, with the customer’s satisfaction as priority.

Shop History

This establishment opened to the public in 1972 and it has remained with the same owners since its inauguration. Every year, at Christmas time, also traditional are the long lines at the door of the establishment in order to take home the bolo-rei of the Confeitaria Petúlia, considered one of the best in the Undefeated City. They bake thousands a day during festive seasons. But they do not stop at this speciality; for example, the sponge cake was considered the best in Porto in a blind tasting held by Time Out, in 2014. It is a reference confectionery in the city of Porto.
