Open since 1950, Drogaria Moderna is now one of the most charming shops in Covilhã. In addition to its store on Rua Rui Faleiro, it also offers online sales.

Shop History

The store opened its doors in October 1950 under the guidance of its founder, Acácio Pinto Pereira, who, after working as a pharmacy assistant for about 15 years, decided to strike out on his own in the drugstore business.
For more than two decades, Drogaria Moderna operated in Covilhã’s main square, earning its place and a reputation for quality among the people of Covilhã, both for the quality of its service and for the owner’s expertise in preparing creams, lotions, ointments, and other compounded products for personal and household use—items that were commonly sold in pharmacies and drugstores at the time.
In the late 1990s, its founder retired, handing over the management of Drogaria Moderna to his son, João Paulo Pereira, who has since made every effort to keep this store open—a true hallmark of Covilhã’s traditional commerce.
The computerization of administrative processes, restoration work aimed at preserving the establishment’s original design, and efforts to keep in stock items that have gradually been disappearing from the market in general were some of the initiatives undertaken in recent years by the current owner.
In late 2012, Drogaria Moderna launched what is likely the first online drugstore, with the aim of allowing customers who do not reside in Covilhã to purchase our products.
