The Shop

The records of the Faria Chemists of 19th May, 1908 are contained in the License Book for Signs and Tablets nr.3, associated with the name of Colonel Manuel José da Fonseca Faria, chemist and founder of this centenary space.

Shop History

After this chemists had been founded by the Coronel, it became the property of Joaquim Sebastião Monteiro, a chemist assistant, and until recently this space always belonged to the same family, ending up in Luciano Monteiro who also did clinical analyzes, and is currently Drª Margarida who manages the space.
In addition to chemical products, they used to sell national and foreign specialties such as bottled or drinking water, perfumes, etc., which can be seen in the newspapers of those time.
Even today, we can find historical shelves, which hold small chemical bottles and still contain the original products. We can also find pieces of chemistry origin, such as ceramic boxes, meters and chemistry scales. The space still preserves the beautiful ceilings worked in stucco.
