In Rua dos Chãos, in a vibrant coloured corner building, we find Farmácia Lima. The Store windows do not go unnoticed, as they regularly feature a themed décor.. It is a modern and highly functional space, but at its very core modernity is interrupted, forcing one’s gaze to move back in time. History unfolds with a small "museum", and the memory of the old apothecaries appears in the form of instruments and utensils needed for the preparation of medicines, as well as bottles and jars for drugs and remedies.

Shop History

Farmácia Lima opens its doors as Farmacia Pereira Castilho in Rua Cândido dos Reis, currently Rua dos Chãos. Little is known of this pharmacy’s early days. The first record found is the registration of Amarino Pereira Castilho, in May 1927, as an associate of the Union of Pharmacists of the District of Braga. From the Pereira Castilho Pharmacy, there was no news until 1940, date of issue of the operational permit. In that same year, Amarino Pereira Castilho, as pharmacy director, becomes a member of the National Union of Pharmacists. The reason for the name change is not known, but as from 1943, we can already find Farmácia Lima in the Trade Yearbooks of Braga, although the new name is only registered on the business license in 1950.
In June 1950, and according to a transfer deed, the ownership of the pharmacy was passed on to Isaura de Assunção Costa Ferreira and in 1989, the license refers that the property passed to the pharmacist Maria da Graça Alves Leite de Castro Mota Fonseca.
Since 1990, Carlos Alberto Sá Esteves, the current owner, has continued the history of Farmácia Lima.
