The Shop
It is one of the few national establishments dedicated to the supply of the painting, restoration and sacred art industry, with articles and materials for the decoration, preservation and restoration of the Portuguese material heritage.
Shop History
Open since 1948, it has been in the same location since the date of its foundation. Initially, it marketed drugstore products for the construction industry, as well as articles for the furniture industry, frames, corks, tanneries, among others. As its business evolved, this establishment ended up specialising in the sale of products for the painting, restoration and sacred art industries, selling, for example, fine gold in 22 and 24 carat leaves, pure pigments, glitter, jaws and imitation gold in gold leaves. There is an inherent pride in the trust their clients place in Francisco Costa & Irmão, which became suppliers of clients who have worked in the decoration of buildings of historical interest, such as the Palácio do Freixo, the Palácio de Belém and the Palácio de Queluz, as well as in the Casa da Música and the preservation of many churches throughout the country. They are suppliers of materials to the Catholic University of Porto, within the scope of the Degree in Conservation and Restoration. They are in the field of conservation and restoration materials, but are ultimately at the basis for the preservation and restoration of the Portuguese material heritage. They have clients all over Portugal, being one of the few national establishments dedicated to this business area.
