The Shop

The building where the store is located, consisting of 3 floors, is balanced in the distribution of its spaces. It presents some Art Nouveau details, both in the worked iron that supports the bay windows and the oculus at the top of the facade, and in the frieze of the architrave, composed of tiles with floral motifs from the Fábrica de Loiça de Sacavém, which specializes in “fine faience friezes ” for establishments. The facade is completely covered with honey-colored pressed rectangular tiles, which creates an interesting contrast with the stone structural elements, enhancing the building’s value.

Shop History

Founded in the 1920s by Joaquim Baptista, it is a company with years of experience in customer relations. Located in the emblematic Praça da Fruta (Praça da República) in Caldas da Rainha, a city that is not indifferent to traditional commerce, it has been serving this commerce for over 80 years and is already the 3rd generation adapted to the current market, which continues to be sold of hardware, in the duplication of keys and garage controls, as well as in the representation of a wide range of normal high security locks and the best paint brands on the market, among other products.

Products and Services

This charismatic store descends from the old house "Ribbas & Sobrinho, Lda.", which advertised itself as "Merchant, fanmaker, hardware, crockery, water pumps and tiles”. In the 70s of the 20th century, it definitively became “Joaquim Baptista , Ltda.”, always maintaining the function of a hardware store but selling everything for DIY, from piping and accessories to clothes lines.
