The Shop

Mr. Jacinto, if not the oldest operating store in the city of Caldas da Rainha, will certainly be one of the oldest. Its collection, decorative and artistic elements are certainly unique in our city. Its existence alone illuminates the eyes of curious people and historians. It will certainly have been an important place for citizens to gather and very relevant to the city’s history as it has a canvas applied to it, the painting of which was done by someone from the lion’s circle (Bordalo Pinheiro’s circle of friends). At this moment and in order to continue a distant story, Mr. Jacinto supports local artists by showcasing their ceramics, painting and crafts. At this moment the door is open with a concept that goes far beyond the haberdashery business, in addition to having created the Sr. brand. Jacinto already works with consolidated and renowned Portuguese brands in the market. The architecture, collection, decorative elements and furniture are the key complement for this to be one of the most sought after stores in the city at the moment.

Shop History

Establishment dating back to 1900. Building belonging to the Sales Henriques family. In 1910, as the property’s property registry attests, the firm, which already occupied the old building, would continue for a few years in this new space, «Viúva & Filhos de José Salles Henriques «will continue to be one of the most important commercial spaces in Caldas da Queen. The offer was diverse: grocery stores, chemical products (for example, sulfur), wines (gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1900), bread, tobacco (agents of the “Companhia dos Tabaco de Portugal”), correspondents of “Banco de Portugal” and “Banco Aliança”. The coexistence established with artists who worked at the factory and the general population of the worldly Vila Termal was therefore natural.” Eventually, the owner of the property would have expressed to Costa Mota his desire to give it a new decoration, which involved painting the ceiling and also stucco work and which would coexist with the stores in the capital.

Products and Services

This is a family-owned housewares and wooden furniture store, it also sells locally made soaps and candles and even plant hangers, mirrors and anything home furniture you can imagine. It is a store where creativity and imagination have no limits. Much of the estate was an integral part of several fabric, lace and clothing factories in the North, factories with centuries-old histories that no longer exist today, hence the importance of safeguarding them.
