The Shop

Initially, the space corresponding to this store would have been a warehouse, followed by the “Shipchandler” Luiz Godinho Lda. store, created by Luiz Godinho to supply ships. It is a century-old company, founded on January 24, 1917 (1), dedicated to the sale of nautical equipment and marine gear. It is publicized as being since 2020 the oldest company in the country, with more than one hundred years of existence, without interruption and in the same family, remaining in the same activity, branch of nautical and commercial navigation.

Shop History

It is one of the last stores selling maritime gear that remain open in Cais do Sodré, where there were eight. Representative of an activity and commercial specialty that was predominant in the area, both in commercial spaces and in workshops, and which is now reduced to two nearby spaces, Luiz Godinho itself and its neighbor Sociedade de Aprestos para Navios.
