At " O Peleiro" you can enjoy traditional food in a rustic setting, where the "Sopa de Pedra"(Stone’s Soup) remains the Queen, but "Cabrito no forno"(roasted lamb), "Feijoada de Samos"(cod bladder bean stew) and "Espetadas"(meat or fish kebabs) are also recommended.
Here, you can enjoy a meal in a space full of history, with a past linked to a tannery and which still belongs to the same family.

Shop History

It was around 1920 that Manuel Virgílio da Silva together with his wife and children, grandparents of the current owners, acquired a tannery factory.
At the beginning of the 1950s, there were some difficulties in the tanning and sole manufacturing business, and that is how they started to create what is today "O Peleiro".
In front of the factory, two monthly fairs used to be hold which used to be the largest cattle fairs in the municipality. The owners’ son – Rogério da Silva Morgado who, after his father´s death, continued with the tanneries and, together with his wife, Lucinda Rodrigues da Costa, ends up also opening a grazing house which used to open on the day of said fairs.
In the 70s, a small cafe and a saline was opened, which only worked on such market days and Sundays.
In the 80s, the current owners, Fernando Manuel Ferreira dos Santos and Henrique José Andrade Paiva and their wives, Maria Virgínia Rodrigues Ferreira dos Santos and Maria da Conceição Rodrigues da Silva Paiva, adopted the name as the space has always been known – " O Peleiro ", which was the name of the person who took care of the leathers and furs. In 1992, when Rogério da Silva Morgado died, the tannery was closed.
