O Picadeiro opened its doors on July 1, 1995 as a snack bar in the area surrounding the Casino, also called the Picadeiro, and is the result of a family project that arose from the desire to "nest" a family that, professionally, would remain nomadic, a "maitre d’hotel" and a high school teacher.
Here, we find tidbits such as iscas de cebolada, roe of sea bass or codfish salted, octopus salad, whelk salad, jaquinzinhos and fried petinguinhas and escabeche, moelas, dobrada, pica-pau, chamuças, codfish cakes, rissoles and wine Ribatejano and farmer.
This space ended up evolving by the will of the customers to become a restaurant – bar, always accumulating the petiscos (Portuguese version of tapas). Here, each suggestion or special request is taken into account for the satisfaction of the client and friend.

Shop History

From day one, O Picadeiro has remained an important reference point for locals, holidaymakers, artists, and directors who came to town to take part in the International Film Festival, and for big-name bullfighters who participate in the bullfights at the Coliseu.
This restaurant is also involved in the cultural routes of the city, as a gastronomic tasting point of typical local delicacies.
The decorative objects found inside are gifts from customers. The Picadeiro also has works of art by Fernando Ledesma, caricatures by Zé Penicheiro and a ceramic piece by Bordalo Pinheiro, the latter belonging to Casa Havaneza, having been found in the safe and delivered here.
Here we also have the POPULAR MENU that, from Monday to Friday, satisfies those who have a short lunchtime schedule.
The dinners are longer meeting points, always with national gastronomy, in which tasting is combined with conversation, not forgetting the fantastic Tertulias in which Carlos Pinto Coelho, journalist, director and television presenter, known for being one of the great projectors of Culture in Portugal and Adriano Moreira, for example, have participated.
Besides all this, here also were made wedding proposals, baptisms, business meetings and gatherings, which makes this space a BAY OF MEMORIES with hilarious moments, emotional, and critical or simply of "gossip".
