Since its foundation it maintains the activity around music, through the choral group, ethnographic group and teaching of music. Both the choral group and the ethnographic group have a continued presence in various national and international cultural initiatives. They collaborate and organize various initiatives of animation of the city.

Shop History

Founded on the 3rd February 1910, (year of the implementation of the Republic) without fixed headquarters, the Orfeao would carry out its activities in a building next to the headquarters of the volunteer firemen on Rua de Rodrigues Sampaio, in an interior patio which was given to them gratuitously. In 1926 the relocated to a building in Praça da Batalha where the establishment is currently located. In the 60s of the 20th century, the building was demolished to expand the contiguous building of the Hotel Império, now the Quality Inn Porto Hotel, maintaining the seat of Orfeão until nowadays. Orfeão was an honorary member of the Association of Journalists and Men of literature of Oporto, and its activity and social and cultural relevance were recognized throughout his history, with the awarding of several prizes and medals. It was recognized as an Entity of Public Utility in 1989. It has a collection of great importance that integrates the ceramic panel by Mário Silva, 1966, the relief with bust of Hernâni Torres by Sergio Caldas, dated 1940, numerous drawings by Cruz Caldas, graphic and photographic documents, posters and programs of events, numerous medals and some decorations. Orfeão do Porto is the oldest choral societies at the national level, at least in terms of uninterrupted activity.
