The Shop

Peninsular – Papelaria e Artes Gráficas offers all kinds of stationery services, as well as specialised services such as binding and personalisation of articles. As far as the graphic sector is concerned, it has typography, offset and digital equipment, which enables orders to be placed in large and small quantities.

Shop History

The foundation dates back to 1905, but Valentim Ribeiro Gonçalves Basto opened the Peninsular Typography at the end of the 19th century. In fact, the brochure "My defence", by António Vasconcellos, was entirely composed in the typography and is part of the oldest collection of this establishment. It is also on the cover of the magazine Algazarra, of August 1902, that a reference to typography appears for the first time. However, it was on the date of the foundation that stationery was added to the printer, which allowed the business to expand. In 1928, upon the death of the founder, Peninsular passed into the hands of his wife, daughter and son-in-law, who imprinted a dynamism and made this establishment a reference point. This is where his slogan comes from "Don’t waste time thinking… buy at the Peninsular". Today, the company is in the fifth generation of the family and it remains a reference in the sector.
