The Shop

The company was founded in 1952 and has existed for over 60 years, maintaining the same name, location in the historic center of Lourinhã village, and original architectural design. The interior still features the old-style counter and display cases, as well as the same products, making it easy to find accessories for repairing or replacing plumbing parts in houses and apartments that are decades old.

Shop History

The current company emerged from a previous one founded in 1939 by Asdrúbal Ramires Ferreira Nobre, the father of José Artur Garcia Nobre. After his father’s death in 1948, José Artur, only 14 years old, began working in the company. When he turned 18 in 1952, he founded the current company in partnership with his sister Maria Celeste Garcia Nobre and António Pereira. The store was initially located on Rua João Luís de Moura. In 1964, it expanded to Largo António Granjo, no. 10. In 1974, António Pereira passed away, and the shares were divided in 1979, with Alzira Garcia Nobre joining the company. She passed away in 1980. In 1989, Maria do Carmo Sousa Gonçalves Nobre joined the company, which she still runs today. After José Artur’s death in 2003, his wife Maria do Carmo and daughters Margarida and Maria Manuela Nobre took over the company. The construction materials and products sold since the store’s inception were innovations in the county and sought after by builders and contractors. Many homes in the county were built and equipped with materials from this store. The owners had a habit of supporting social causes, providing goods and monetary aid.
