Shop History
Queijaria Amaral is the oldest cheese factory in the city of Porto and it opened its doors in 1928. Closely linked to its history was Maria José Silva, who died in 2015, and who was the owner and face of the establishment for several decades – becoming known for her side of director, interpreter and musician of the films she idealised, without ever neglecting her work in the Queijaria Amaral, hence her nickname as ‘cheese director’ or ‘director of the people’. Apart from her charisma and history, but also being part of it, this establishment has become a reference for those seeking cheese. The house speciality is Cheese from Serra da Estrela, but it offers the customer a variety of fifty different cheese, as well as other traditional Portuguese products.
