The Shop

Located in one of the noblest parts of the city of Braga, Queijaria Central is a place of reference and a meeting place for many people from Braga. Known for the famous Serra da Estrela cheese and for its good patisserie, dried fruit and top quality handmade products. For many years it has been an obligatory stop for those looking for regional products of proven quality or just for a snack or for breakfast. Anyone from Braga recognizes this space since childhood and it is proud to receive several generations of many families.

Shop History

Queijaria Central was founded in 1952 by Manuel Dias from the region of Beira and a partner, in a shop located in Rua do Souto. Years later it would settle in its current location, never to move again. It arose from the will of Manuel Dias to make known the delicious products of his region of origin. Being from the region, he knew the cheeses like no one else, as well as the best artisan producers. Some of these producers or descendants remain until today! Over the years he has added more and more products, always careful to choose the best quality and products that represent other regions in order to bring the flavours of Portugal to the tastes of Braga. Later on, a table service was also created, where the commercialized products were consumed and some home-made snacks were added. The cafeteria and pastry shop was the next step and made Queijaria Central into the space it is today. It remained in the hands of Manuel Dias until 2013. From then on, it gained new ownership, being bought by Daniel Carvalho, who took over the reins of the business and maintains the tradition of continuing to gather the preferences of the most demanding citizens of Braga who are in search of high quality traditional products, while maintaining the original spirit and commitment to quality as always.

Queijaria Central is a multifaceted shop, that provides a cafeteria and pastry service with various of local specialties.
It also has an outlet focused essentially on regional specialties and handmade products, such as Serra da Estrela cheese, meats from Montalegre, Margaride sponge cake, and Bolinhol (sponge cake from Vizela), among many other portuguese specialties.
