The Shop
It is in Campo das Hortas that we find the Cruz Sobral Restaurant, known for its homemade food, it is a reference of Braga’s traditional cuisine. The secret of the special flavour of the kid and roast beef or the bacalhau à moda de Braga (Braga-style codfish), lies in the wood-burning cooker, where everything is slowly cooked under the guidance of chef Palmira Sobral. However tradition is also present in the space that welcomes us. A cozy environment where the niches embedded in the thick stone walls, the details in linen, the old photographs on the walls are testimonies of a family´s history dedicated to the art of hospitality.
Shop History
It was in 1926 that António Alves Cruz and Aurora da Rocha Cruz opened their business in Praça Conde São Joaquim, now Campo das Hortas. It all started with a tavern and a lodging service. In 1950 the license is granted Casa de Pasto and in 1966, António Alves Cruz and his wife, owners of Casa Cruz, in a local newspaper, wish a very happy New Year to their customers.
In the 1970s begins a new phase for Casa Cruz. The building was renovated, gaining a new exterior and interior image, creating new and better conditions of functionality, which allowed it to obtain its restaurant license. The management changes generations, and it is the founder’s daughter, Palmira Sobral and her husband, who take over the fate of the new Cruz Sobral Restaurant.
In 1990 the building was again renovated and a new space was created to continue to receive its customers, combining a legacy of knowledge and flavours and the art of hospitality with the present times.
