The Shop
Flor do Vouga is one of the reference restaurants in Minho gastronomy, opening its door at 8 a.m. every day to serve the best petiscos (Portuguese version of tapas), which are the most sought after by its customers.
Shop History
Flor do Vouga was founded in 1943 by Adriano Tavares, as a tribute to his hometown, Sever do Vouga. In the 1940s, the sale of alcoholic drinks after midnight was only possible if accompanied by a plate of food. Thus, this restaurant created a dish with two fried eggs and fried potatoes and a "caldo verde" (soup) to go with the famous red "verde" wine sold by the bowl. Thus, its doors began to open at 7am and close at 6am. In its kitchen the traditional Minho dishes prevailed, such as "feijoada", "papas de sarrabulho", lamprey, veal, kid, codfish and hake fillets with "salada russa" (potato, pea and carrot salad). As a result, it became a reference for the people of Braga. In 1977, the company is transferred to the current owner Manuel Joaquim Marques Pereira.
