Located at Av. de Roma, nº 16E, the “Rita Salazar Store” continues the retail clothing business for adults that has been operating at that address since 1976, exemplifying long-term family management now in its second generation. The business began with the opening of “A Maçã” (the second in Lisbon), which later became one of the “Ana Salazar” brand stores. The name changed to “Rita Salazar Store” took place between 2008 and 2009. The establishment is owned by the company Abeilard & Neves Lda., which also operated its predecessor stores.

Shop History

The stores founded by Ana Salazar on Avenida de Roma, nº 16E, have held great historical and commercial significance from the start.
It was on Avenida de Roma that the second of Ana Salazar’s revolutionary fashion stores, A Maçã, was opened. It sold imported clothing, particularly from London, with a modern and casual style that sharply contrasted with the heavy and conservative fashion dominant in Portugal at the time. The store was a pioneer in Lisbon and stood out, achieving great success among younger generations.
Ana Salazar and Manuel Salazar das Neves created the stores and the “Ana Salazar” brand, registered in the 1980s. Ana Salazar was the first fashion designer in Portugal to have a brand under her own name. Her creations were available at the Avenida de Roma store:
Ana designed pieces that aimed to be innovative. She launched a perfume, designed eyewear lines, home textiles, and floor coverings. She was well-positioned internationally — in Paris, Milan, Tokyo, and New York.
The “Ana Salazar” store on Av. de Roma, of undeniable historical and commercial importance to the city, was succeeded by the “Rita Salazar Store.” Also linked to fashion, innovation, and creativity, it offers distinctive, quality products with unique design, from national designers and artisanal crafts. It is currently one of the few remaining representatives of this type of specialized commerce in the city.
