The Shop

It is dedicated to the rental, repair, maintenance, transformation and trade of machinery, equipment, hand tools, hardware, plumbing and heating products, materials and products for construction and public works, sanitary equipment, chemicals, paints, varnishes, ferrous and non-ferrous metals, drugstore and similar products.

Shop History

The company Rocha & Leitão was founded in 1982, by Manuel Fernando Moreira Leitão and José Augusto Alves da Rocha. The shop is still in the family, in the 2nd generation. Besides the commercial activity, it has a workshop area where, in order to meet the needs of customers looking for articles that the market does not offer, they adapt, create and produce those same articles. It is one of the few hardware shops still open to the public in Rua do Almada, an artery of the city where traditionally hardware shops and hand tools were concentrated. It has been a concern of the current owner to include in the establishment ranges of articles that were sold in shops in that artery that are closing, a practice that has contributed to maintaining the commercial identity of the street to which it belongs. The elements of the interior architecture remain original, with only one change, which involved the expansion of the warehouse area to the patio, on two floors. The building, consisting of two floors, maintains the integrity of the original architectural features on its facade, including doors, windows and shutters. It is a well-known establishment in Porto, both for the diversity of the commercial offer and for the originality of its shop window. It has already been awarded several times in window dressing competitions organised by the city council and its interior served as the backdrop for the promotional video of the application of Porto for Best European Destination, in 2017.
