Shop History

Antoine Shoe Store began its journey in Coimbra in 1990, though its origins date back to 1977. That year, António Alberto do Vale Fonseca, a former employee of Romeu Shoe Store, decided to establish his own shoe business in the city of Aveiro. Being a Coimbra native, António later chose to open a store in his hometown, specializing in footwear. This store has retained its original concept and continues to thrive to this day.
Antoine Shoe Store is one of the few remaining traditional shoe stores in Coimbra’s downtown, an area now largely dominated by souvenir shops, cafés, and restaurants catering to tourists. By staying true to its roots, the store upholds the classic retail traditions that were once typical of historic city centers.
A respected name in Coimbra, Antoine Shoe Store is known for serving customers who value high-quality footwear and timeless style.
The store underwent a redesign led by architect Vasco Cunha, a Coimbra-based professional who collaborated with renowned figures such as architect Fernando Távora.
