The Shop

Founded in 1976 by Manuel Alves Salgueiro and Delmar Rodrigues de Sá, the company was born as Supermercado das Alcatifas da Foz, at Avenida Brasil, no. 109. The former was involved in the yarn and dye trade; the latter owned a handloom factory at Espinho. Their partnership developed a shop specialising in the sale of artisanal rugs. It is currently managed by the founder’s daughter, Arminda da Silva Salgueiro de Freitas Gomes, and her son, Paulo António Salgueiro de Freitas Gomes.

Shop History

The brand was at its peak in the 1980s and 1990s, with several tapestry and curtain shops in the city of Porto, sought after by customers from the region and neighbouring municipalities. As the market changed and large chains emerged in the sector, the group restructured itself in the early 2000s, adopting its current name: Supercasa.
The business is currently dedicated to selling industrially-manufactured carpets and tapestries, both domestic and foreign, as well as curtains. It also stocks a selection of certified artisanal rugs: Arraiolos, Beiriz and Asian. They have an atelier at Carvalhos, Vila Nova de Gaia, where they transform, renovate and clean tapestries.
