Shop History

Cova Funda Tavern is, since its origins, renowned for its service, from breakfasts to late meals and suppers, attended by all kind of public, from lower and working classes to historical figures of the city.
Although it was not the only tavern in the city, it achieved to continuously remain a meeting point for such differentiated groups as PCO elements, entrepreneurs, and workers from the area, Academica football players, coaches, players from other sports and many students. It is a visit point for many generations that passed by Coimbra and it should also be referred that several foreign players had their ‘intensive Portuguese course’ here, as this was, for so many times,  their refugee due to the foster care that characterized the owners. Cova Funda was, in fact, a characteristic place, excellent meeting point for friends to have a good time.

Products and Services

Although there is a vast tradition of taverns/eating houses in Coimbra, Cova Funda is undoubtedly an important social and gastronomic reference.  In this establishment, stands out as famous meals the Codfish and chickpea and soup made of vegetables, beans and pork meat, traditional dishes that are still in the menu along all these years. In its origins, Cova Funda tavern also served breakfasts, occasion when they also commercialized the famous snuff packages.
