Shop History
Tasca da Alice is a family business that has been operating continuously since 1929.
Founded by the grandparents of the current owner’s husband – Alice Coutinho – who has been running the establishment for almost 30 years, it is an establishment that, from early on, promoted development and simultaneously benefited from a strategic geographical location: Lugar das Neves. A small place – at the confluence of three Viana parishes in the Neiva valley, a dozen kilometers from the municipal seat and central to its connection to Braga – that establishes itself as a civic and cultural reference, privileging the meeting and conviviality that establishments such as Tasca da Alice, Auto da Floripes, the chapel of Senhora das Neves (and its festivities), the muleteers, the stagecoaches or the centuries-old inn have always promoted.
Throughout this almost centennial history, the establishment has already performed various functions: it was a slaughterhouse, a tavern, a butcher shop, a tavern, always remaining a place for local meetings and conviviality.
The space is unique and typical of a Minho tavern. The appearance remains true to the original image, despite some renovations to comply with all current regulations. The wooden furniture has given way to stainless steel, but we can still find the old wood-burning stove, fans, dishes, and many other elements full of memory and history.
